PTSA Co-Presidents:  Kristine Keski and Laura Hammond

A bi-monthly newsletter of the Bennett Elementary School PTSA 2.3.22

Dear Bennett Parents.

We hope your family survived the fun power outages last week.  I realized that every family could really use some regular 'unplugged' time with the kids.  It was amazing how much fun and honest communication we had when we weren't surrounded by a thousand electronic devices.

As you walk around Bennett, you will notice the Reflections Art projects submitted by our talented students.  The pieces with finalist ribbons are headed off to Crossroads to be judged at the city level.  Any winners will then go on to be judged at a state level.  We are very proud of every student who submitted their artwork including poetry, music, dance and choreography.  Fine Arts and Performance Arts are what make our culture so rich and unique.  We appreciate the Bellevue PTSA, State PTA and National PTA for recognizing our student's diverse contributions to the arts in these projects. Please take an extra minute to wander the Bennett halls and appreciate these projects for yourself!  Thank you so much to Carol Losi and Mary Worley for helping this year's Reflections project be such a success!

The PTSA is beginning to put together the Nominating Committee for next year's executive officers.  Many of you have insight into the talents necessary for prospective officers.  If you would like to serve on the Nominating Committee or possibly run for an office, please contact Laura Hammond for further information.  We rely on the Nominating committee to put together a highly qualified and enthusiastic slate of recommended officers.  The slate will not be presented for PTSA vote until March so you have plenty of time to get involved.

We hope all of the classes are enjoying their December field trips.  The Kindergartners went to see 'The Gingerbread Man', the 5th grade went to 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', the 4th grade has seen PNB's performance of 'The Nutcracker', the 2nd graders are headed to the Woodland Park Zoo and the 3rd graders are off to the Pacific Science Center.  Thank you to all of the parents and volunteers who have provided transportation for these fieldtrips.  We again would like to thank the Bennett families and staff who have supported the PTSA fund raising events that have provided financial support for these field trips!

Have a wonderful holiday season!  Make sure you take a few minutes to appreciate the truly 'amazing' holiday decorations at many houses in the Bennett area!

Sincerely,

Kristine Keski

Reaching Out to Families in Need

Is your family interested in reaching out to a family in need over the holidays?  There are families here at Bennett and in our wider community who could use your help!

To help a family at Bennett, please purchase a gift certificate for Target, Fred Meyer, or a local grocery store, for any amount, and bring it to the front office before December 17.  It will be anonymously distributed to a needy family at Bennett in time for holiday shopping.

To sponsor an entire family, call Overlake Service League at 425-451-1175 and speak to Kathy.  You can be matched up with a needy family of any size and fill their wish list of gifts and groceries.

This is one more way to teach our children about the spirit of giving and sharing over the holidays!  Thanks in advance for your generosity!

Parents, Please Drive Carefully!

Some parents who, after they drop their children off or pick them up in the drive-through area, run the stop sign that is there as they turn onto NE 16th Street. Please remember that the stop sign at that location means that stopping there is mandatory and not optional. Otherwise, you could find yourself at fault in an accident and children could get hurt.
