Dear Bennett Families,
The school year is rushing by and you are probably starting to plan your kid's summer activities. Before we get too close to summer, Bennett PTSA is hosting the annual Spring Social on Friday, May 21st. The theme is 'Beach Party' and of course there will be fun food, music, dancing and beach games! Dress up and bring your whole family to this fun event!
Thank you to Gitit Banai and the Bennett families who put on the Mexican Fiesta Multicultural event on May 3rd. What a great party with deliciously authentic Mexican food! All of the dancers (including parents) were fun to watch! Bennett is very lucky to have such a diverse and enthusiastic student population. We look forward to next year’s events!
Bennett PTSA is the proud sponsor of the Bennett Foreign Language Program. On Thursday, May 6th, the BFLP held its' annual Foreign Fest. Each language class did an entertaining and informational performance. The families shared tasty treats from different countries. The evening was fun and informative. Thank you to the BFLP Board and language teachers for their creativity and enthusiasm! Don't forget to register early for next years' foreign language classes as space is limited!
Thank you Bennett students and families for making the Staff Appreciation Week such a success! Each day the teachers and staff received special cards, flowers, supplies, certificates and enthusiastic thank yous! The teachers and staff at Bennett take such great care of our kids and it was fun to take care of them in return! If you didn't have a chance last week, please take an extra minute to personally thank the teachers and staff for their care and dedication!
The PTSA is looking for a few good volunteers to coordinate many of our activities planned for next year. We have a master signup board near the office and hope you will join our fun crew! We will have additional signups for room parents and committee positions next fall at the Welcome Back Tea.
Thank you again to all of the volunteers who continue to make Bennett such a great school!
Sincerely,
Kristine Keski
PTSA CO-President

BFLP Language Classes
The Bennett Foreign Language Program (BFLP) is considering adding Chinese (Mandarin) to the program. In order to do this, we need to have at least 8 students committed to taking Mandarin next year (2004 - 2005). If you are interested in signing your child up for Mandarin, or are interested in a language not currently offered, please call Marian McDermott at 653-1235.
Early registration for BFLP classes will begin in May. Look for the announcement in the Friday Flyer and the registration posting on the Bennett web site in May at http://www.bennettelementary.org

Bicycle to School Day
Friday, May 21 is Bicycle to School Day! Bicycle to Bennett that morning, stop by the covered area, and get your prize for coming in by bike. Bennett will be among 14 schools in the greater Seattle area having a Bicycle To School Day booth.
Why bike to school?
* The leading cause of death among adults after tobacco use is inactivity -- and a sedentary lifestyle is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. If you care about your kids' health and longevity, you should not drive your kids to school. Encourage them to walk or bike, leading to the healthy habit of thinking "feet first" to get around.
* Bicycling skills help future drivers. In five years, your fifth grader may have a driver's license! When your kids ride their bikes, they learn the rules of the road and how to judge traffic. They're usually on low-traffic streets and they move relatively slowly, so mistakes don't have the consequences they have when driving the family car down a busy arterial. If kids ride with an adult, they have a good role model for obeying traffic laws and operating a vehicle with consideration for others.
* Bicycling is fun!
