Bellevue schools foundation BECOMES AMAZON.COM ASSOCIATE

BSF to use online shopping as new source of funding for Bellevue schools

April 30, 2003. Bellevue, WA – The Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) has taken its fundraising efforts to the Internet.  The foundation announced today that it has become an Amazon.com Associate, which allows it to provide hyperlinks to the online retailer from the BSF Web site (www.bsfdn.org) and receive commission for any sales made via those links.

“Many parents, students and BSF supporters in the community are already shopping on Amazon.com for books, music, clothing, electronics and other products, so now, we are just asking them to come to the BSF Web site first and link to Amazon.com via our site,” said Sherry Ladd, executive director of the BSF. “Amazon has an amazing support and infrastructure for its Associates, and we are thrilled to be able to see how this channel works as a new way for us to raise money for our programs.”

Graphical links to Amazon.com are placed throughout the BSF Web site, including links to specific products, such as books on education, school funding and mentoring as well as popular children’s books, such as the new Harry Potter book soon to be released.

In the future, BSF also hopes to use the online program to obtain specific products schools need, such as books for a BSF-sponsored literacy program that helps build in-class libraries for every elementary classroom.  BSF will place links directly to those products needed for classrooms from its Web site and ask supporters to donate the books to BSF for the schools.

For the 2002-2003 fiscal year, BSF raised some $800,000 from individual and corporate donations and grants.  The money went to fund a wide range of programs across the Bellevue School District, including enhanced curriculum for science, math and reading, mentoring programs, classroom grants, teacher training and more.

A non-profit, independent organization, BSF works to bridge the gap between what the state provides and what Bellevue Public Schools need to provide education excellence.

Dear Bennett Families,

Tonight is the Sock Hop'n Auction.  The festivities begin at 5:00 and end at 9:30pm.

We are starting off with a family dinner catered by Milt's BBQ Express.  There is a separate meal for adults ($10) and kids($5).  Reservations were due May 9th, but we will try to have extra available if you did not make a reservation.

The fun of the Sock Hop'n Auction is for all Bennett families and staff.  We hope you and your kids will join us for an evening of food, dancing, hula hoop contests and lots more fun!  Wear your favorite 50's attire and get ready to Twist and Shout.

Don't forget, this is your big chance to bid on your child's Classroom Keepsake, Basket or on the donations from the teachers and staff.  The auction will be a combination of silent and live bidding.  Dessert and the live auction will be at 7:00!  Your contributions are what continue to allow the Bennett PTSA to provide such terrific programs for the students.

Come show your support and enjoy a wonderful evening with your children and fellow Bennett families!

Thank you to Gitit Banai and the Multicultural committee for hosting the Mexican Cultural day on May 6th.  We are lucky to have such a diverse and interesting student population.  Thank you also to the BFLP and the foreign language teachers for hosting the Foreign Fest.  The students did an amazing job and we know all of the teachers worked really hard to pull this together.

Just a reminder that staff appreciation week has been moved out to the last week in May.  We have a lot going on and wanted a calmer week to show our appreciation to our wonderful Bennett teachers and staff.

See you tonight at the Sock Hop'n Auction!
