Dear Bennett Families,

It is with fond memories that I am writing my final Friday Flyer President's letter.  I know many of you, who have read my letter each issue, laugh at some of the Kristine like things I say.  I guess I am who I am.  I have had so much fun serving as President and Co-President for the past 2 years.

As I continue to say, the more involved I am, the more I actually get out of it.  I have met so many great people who are enthusiastic and dedicated to making sure all of our kids have a first rate public education.  We should all be very proud of the contributions the PTSA and its members make to Bennett each year.  Being involved in PTSA and as a volunteer at Bennett has allowed me to have an inside look at how my children are taught and taken care of.  I am very proud of all of the Bennett teachers and staff that I have had the pleasure to work with.  Of course, the work never ends.  I won't be able to keep my fingers out of a project or two next school year.  Thank you to everyone for making this job so fun!

As we finish out the school year, we would like to thank Michelle Mincy, Lis Stulz, and all of the Beach Party volunteers.  What a fun party!  The kids danced and ate their way through the evening!  We even had the privilege to see the Simpliciano's strut their stuff on the dance floor.  Was that the Hustle? It was great to have so many Bennett families enjoy the evening!

Our next PTSA event is Field Day on Friday, June 18th.  The 5th graders will be enjoying the same day at Wild Waves for their year end party following the

Dare/5th Grade Graduation on Wednesday, June 16th. Thank you Debbie & Jeff

Page, Susan Wenzl and Terry Morrison for planning these year end events!  You make the kids feel really special!

We are still looking for a few key volunteers for next year's PTSA Board.

Please make the commitment now and help us with these programs!

Walkathon           Membership          Yearbook

Thank you to the current committee chairs for their hard work and creativity!

The last PTSA Board meeting is a transition meeting to give all of the new volunteers their committee notebooks.  The meeting is Tuesday, June 15th, 7:00pm at my house.  The theme is Mexican so come with room for appetizers and tasty Mexican beverages!

Thank you again to everyone who has made this job so fun and rewarding!  I look forward to seeing you in the halls of Bennett.

Sincerely,

Kristine Keski

PTSA Co-President

PTSA Fall Fundraising Events

The annual PTSA Walkathon is scheduled for September.  When you return to school in the fall, Walkathon packets will go home with your children.  This is one of our two fundraising events and we hope your family will enthusiastically support the Walkathon again next year with lots of pledges!

Summer vacation is the perfect opportunity to procure items for the PTSA Auction scheduled for November.  Don't wait until the last minute to plan your Family Auction Package, Classroom Keepsake or Classroom Basket.  Now's your chance to have the coolest classroom keepsakes and baskets!  Don't forget to get the whole class involved!

Summer Reading for Kids

Parents!! Help your child keep their reading skills up during the summer by encouraging them to participate in Blaze a Trail to Your Library – the King County Library System’s summer reading program for kids. It’s FREE and it’s FUN!  No dull, homework-style reading is required. Kids can read anything they want from comics to classics. All they have to do is come into a King County Library, (we’d love to see them at the Lake Hills Library or the Library Connection at Crossroads) and sign up. Then, they decide how many books they will read or listen to during the summer and start reading and listening. Children ages 0 - 11 are welcome to participate.

The Lake Hills and Crossroads libraries have many summer activities planned too. Kids can get started at the Reader Roundup Open House at the Lake Hills Library on Wednesday, June 23 from 4-7pm. They can sign up to Blaze a Trail..., play games, do craft activities and attend a Western-style magic show with magician Payne Fifield at 7pm. Throughout the summer the libraries will host puppet shows and hands-on programs about snakes and amphibians. Book-It Repertory Theatre will perform The Prince of the Pond, Seattle Storm players will visit, and much, much more. Come into either the Lake Hills or Crossroads libraries to pick up a full schedule of activities.

Also, if your child has completed grades 1-3 but still could use a little extra help with reading, consider signing them up for Book Buddies at the Lake Hills Library. This once-a-week program (Monday evenings in July and August) will pair children with teen volunteers who will read with them and offer encouragement under the guidance of professional children’s librarians. For more information call the Lake Hills Library at 425-747-3350 and ask for a children’s librarian.
