Don’t know what to do with all those books you read this summer?

Consider donating them to Interlake High School PTSA.  We will be selling used books at Overlake Safeway during the month of October.  Drop your donations off now at the Bennett Elem. or Interlake Main Office or call Pandy Stoianoff for pickup 425-644-6882.  And don’t forget to shop at the Interlake Used Book table at Overlake Safeway in October.  Paperbacks will sell for $0.50 and hard covers for $1.00.

Thank you for supporting Interlake High School!

Lost and Found Items Donated

After school got out in June, there were (as usual!) many items left in the lost and found at Bennett.  A group of volunteers washed and sorted those items, and the coats were donated to "Warm Coats for Kids" which will distribute them to needy kids in Bellevue schools this fall.  The other clothes were donated to Eastside Baby Corner which also distributes them to families on the Eastside.  Thanks to the following people for doing the washing and sorting:  Susan Steckler, Lila Hamai, Marian McDermott, Michelle Ball, Kate Spearman, Mary Chin, and Kim McDermott.

Watch the Friday Flyer for upcoming dates for the annual Coat Drive and Food Drive as well as other events.  Please contact Kim McDermott 649-5976 if you are interested in helping with social concerns events this year.

PARENTS…we have lots of OPPORTUNITIES to assist at school as:

Morning Supervision:  We have 400+ students arriving for school each morning.  Miss Gilbert (Norma) and Mr. Long (Joe) are out front greeting students and holding them until the third bus arrives.  If we had parents to help, we can then just let the students go to before school recess.  This will avoid the morning stampede.  We NEED PARENTS all around the school building to keep our students safe, especially kindergarten parents.  Some of the kindergarten children don’t want to go to morning recess and now we have three classes.

Writing, Math and Reading Tutors…are needed to provide addition support to our students in various grades.  Skills a little rusty?  Share them with a student and I guarantee you’ll sharpen them.

Walk About Program:  Parents who come from 12noon to 12:30 to help supervise the primary students at recess.  This is really helpful to address some social and conflict managing skills to our students.  All physical and disciplinary issues are handled by Mrs. Harriott.

Lunchroom Supervision:  You must have strong ears, not sensitive to noise…primary lunch time 11:40 – 12noon.  Assist especially during dismissal time for recess.  A staff member is on duty, but with 200+, management control is necessary.  The children also enjoy adults to just sit and visit during their lunch.

VIBES Mentor:  A formal training session is required through the district office.  Day and evening orientation times are available.  Mentors offer one hour a week and are assigned to a specific child in a classroom to help with academic and/or social skills.

ALL PARENTS…

There is a list of parents who have been cleared to volunteer at Bennett.  If you have signed up to assist in the classroom, you HAVE to complete a one-time security form (blue) that can be obtained in the office.  Parents returning to Bennett…please check the list in the office, to make sure you have been properly processed.  When filling out a form we need to have a copy of a personal identification (driver’s license, passport).  I’d be extremely grateful for your cooperation so that I don’t have to personally track you down.

Remember:  “You can brighten the days in so many ways

As you do your part with a generous heart.

The effort and care you selflessly share

Spread hopes and cheers to a child so dear.”

Bellevue Schools Foundation Phonathon is coming!

Do for every child what we would do for our own

Bellevue Schools Foundation Phonathon is coming on October 25 -27.  You can make a difference for the children in our schools!  Please make a generous donation when volunteers from our school call.

This year, BSF is raising $1.75 million for world-class, district-wide academic programs and support services for teachers and students in Bellevue’s schools.  BSF relies on financial support from parents like you to provide these valuable programs for our students.  Your dollars also support classroom grants, teacher training, book purchases, middle school science, VIBES mentoring, and childcare scholarships.  Funds raised during Phonathon benefit all students in all Bellevue schools.

Company matching funds double your contribution.  Microsoft and Boeing are among the companies matching employees’ donations.  Please contact your employer for a matching gift form.

Shopping on amazon.com?

Access it through the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) website and BSF receives a portion of the proceeds from amazon.com.  It’s simple: go to the Bellevue Schools Foundation website at www.bsfdn.org and click on the amazon.com link/icon – that’s all it takes!
