Operation Exploration Information

For more than 30 years, Operation Exploration (OE) has provided students in the Bellevue School District going into grades 2-6 with a summer-time opportunity to expand their abilities through a program that emphasizes accelerated academics, creativity, and higher-level thinking skills.

OE is an academic program that typically appeals to independent learners who display intense curiosity, prefer complex and abstract thinking, and like to generate creative, unique ideas and products.

This year’s theme is Wonders of Our World.  During the 12-day program, students will investigate various subjects through the integration of math, science, social studies, literacy and the arts.   Each teacher designs their own curriculum. Here are some of their ideas:

Dates and time:  July 6- 21 9 am-1 pm

Bus transportation is provided.

Parent Information Night will be Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00PM.  This meeting will be held in the library at Somerset Elementary, located at 14100 Somerset Blvd. SE, the site for OE this year.

A fee of $275.00 must be paid in full at the time of registration.  This covers all materials, transportation, and an OE t-shirt.  Registration forms will be accepted by U.S. mail only, and must be postmarked on or before April 7, 2006.  Priority will be given to registrations received first as determined by their postmarks. Please do not return the registration form to your child’s school or the district office.  We will send you a postcard by May 5, 2006 if your child is accepted.  Checks will be returned if space is not available.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Health officials worldwide are concerned about the H5N1 “bird” flu influenza.  Bellevue School District administration has met with Seattle-King County Health Department, learning about the impact such a pandemic flu may have within the district, city, county and state. The district has created a committee to prepare for the impact the “bird” flu may have on our school community.

Because we care about your child’s  health and safety, we have developed a web page resource for you to learn about the “bird” flu; ways to stay healthy and follow updates from the King County Health Department and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Find our information on www.bsd405.org under “Health Services” in Quicklinks.

Thank you for continuing to practice good hand washing for yourself, and your students, covering your cough and staying home when you are ill.

Nell Garvin, R.N. Bellevue School District Nurse Supervisor.

Siblings, family members and friends are welcome to  participate in the day’s  races and games, but must leave around 11:00pm The team members  will be walking in thirty minute shift. They are required to walk at least three shifts. They will be plenty of  chaperones. This event is very fun and everyone is highly encouraged to join!
