Dear
Parents/Guardians,
Health
officials worldwide are concerned about the H5N1 “bird” flu influenza. Bellevue School District administration has met
with Seattle-King County Health Department, learning about the impact such a
pandemic flu may have within the district, city, county and state. The district
has created a committee to prepare for the impact the “bird” flu may have on
our school community.
Because
we care about your child’s health and
safety, we have developed a web page resource for you to learn about the “bird”
flu; ways to stay healthy and follow updates from the King County Health
Department and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Find
our information on www.bsd405.org under “Health Services” in Quicklinks.
Thank
you for continuing to practice good hand washing for yourself, and your
students, covering your cough and staying home when you are ill.
Nell
Garvin, R.N. Bellevue School District Nurse Supervisor.

Have Fun, But Be Safe
•
To keep sun
fun, wear sunscreen and use sunglasses.
Sunscreen
is important for people of all races.
•
Always wear a bike helmet. It’s the law in King
County
and reduces your risk of brain injury by 88 percent.
•
Learn to swim or use a life vest when you’re on the water. Even better—learn
lifesaving techniques.
•
Avoid getting into a car with an unsafe driver.
•
Go out with at least one friend you can rely on.
•
Don’t assume that people on the Internet are who they say they are. Some people
online aren’t truthful about who they are and might hurt you.
•
Planning on a summer job? Trust your instincts. If it feels unsafe for any
reason, quit!
Have a great summer!
