Mark your calendars for the next Skate King event, February 28th from 6:30 – 8:30pm. This year we decided to have evening sessions for Skate King as well as the afternoon to give families another option. Thank you to Dee Hoglund for organizing this, the kids love it!

As Young Scientist Week approaches March 5-9 encourage your child to get their experiments going and don't forget to order your display board (information is available on line at www.bennettelementary.org).
Text Box: Young Scientist Week runs March 5th—9th . Important dates:
February 7, lunch break, library -- 2nd Science Project Help Workshop
Soon -- Trifold boards for sale at the student store (stay tuned for dates)
March 5, morning -- bring your projects to school
March 7, lunch break -- egg drop
March 7, 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. -- Family Science Night

Look for boards in the school in a few weeks to sign up to help on the night of the event.

What is Young Scientist Week?

1. In-class outreach programs from the Pacific Science Center and Mercer Slough

2. Every child has the opportunity to complete and display a science project.

There is no judging. No sign-up. No forms to complete. Just do it. There are hints on Text Box: the Bennett website and help available during noon workshops. Boards to display the projects will be available for purchase at the student store.

3. Egg Drop — Any child or group of children can design and build a package to protect an egg from a drop of about 60'.

The package must be able to fit through a basketball hoop. Eggs will be brought to the classes Wednesday morning so the kids can load them in their packages. (see website for additional info)

4. Family Science Night -- PTSA volunteers make and explain hands-on science learning displays in the multi-purpose room and some classrooms.

Local businesses and organizations also provide displays (the list is still in flux; stay tuned).

Family Science Night needs lots of volunteers so please add your name to the volunteer sign-ups when you see them in the school.

Please encourage your student, no matter how young or old to do a science experiment.  These are fun to do and especially fun to share with their friend and family at Family Science Night on March 7th!

Text Box: We could really use some ideas and involvement from new parents. You do not have to have a science background to help with this event.
If you can help us plan or generate interest, especially with the younger kids, please call or e-mail Karen Dawson (425) 643-6298
