COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS
 

Bennett Elementary PTSA Committee Descriptions

Bennett Elementary board of Directors consists of the Executive board and the Committee Chairs. The committees and there descriptions are displayed below.

 

Arts: This committee(s) would research, propose and plan activities that enrich Bennett students’ arts education. This may include music, dance, theater, visual art. Reflections: A national PTSA visual/art/music/literature/photography competition this committee promotes, provides workshops and arranges for judging at the local school level.
 
Assemblies: Choosing and booking approximately six educationally enriching assemblies for our school.
 
Auction: This committee plans, organizes and presents a fundraiser auction event. Usually an evening adult event.
 
Audit: Takes place at the end of the PTSA fiscal year and possibly mid-year to make sure our financial records are accurate.
 
Book Fair: The annual library fund-raiser. This family event benefits Bennett's library, as well as the classrooms and students.
 
Directory: A phone book of all Bennett students and staff which will be organized and distributed to all Bennett families at the beginning of the year.
 
Distribution: Involves a few reliable parents to collate, staple and distribute to classrooms our Friday Flyer and other informational material. A one to two-hour job on Friday mornings.
 
Environmental Enhancement: This committee keeps our campus looking beautiful. Love to garden? This could be a spot for you.
 
Field Day: This committee puts together an all-school afternoon of play and celebration at the end of the school year. An opportunity to enjoy games and activities with students and staff.
 
Grants/Finance: This committee will research and apply for grants including grants from Bellevue Schools Foundation.

 

Dare/Fifth Grade Graduation: Plans function to celebrate the completion of the elementary grades.
 
Friday Flyer: The PTSA newsletter keeps parents informed about
Bennett.

 
Health/Safety-Emerg. Prep.: This committee promotes safety awareness and education, and emergency preparedness.
 
Hospitality: Provides refreshments for PTSA meetings once a month.
 
Legislative: Encourages involvement in legislative issues that affect the health, education and well being of our children. Spends a weekend in October at the WSPTSA Legislative Session in Ellensburg. Collaborates with WSPTSA Legislative Leadership and other school representatives via a very active centralized statewide email system. Reporting of key issues and events to Bennett PTSA Officers and at general meetings throughout the year.
 
Liaison BSF: Communicates issues/ projects between Bennett Elementary and the Bellevue Schools Foundation and Bennett PTSA. Coordinates volunteers from Bennett Elementary PTSA for the Bellevue Schools Foundation Phone-a-thon. The Bellevue Schools Foundation funds major educational projects for the Bellevue School District through grants. Encourages and supports grant applications from Bennett Elementary Staff, parents, and students to the Bellevue Schools Foundation for projects that enhance learning at Bennett Elementary School. Attends Bellevue Schools Foundation meetings and focus groups.
 
Liaison Young Author: A link between the Bennett Young Author committee and the PTSA.
 
Library Volunteers: Assist in the library - checking out books to students, shelving and helping our librarian. A weekly commitment.
 
Membership: This committee solicits membership to our PTSA to keep this volunteer organization growing.
 
Multicultural: Encourages cultural exchange, enrichment and connections between members of our diverse community. Involves fun activities, including Multicultural Night where families share their native customs and food in an evening of entertainment.

Nominating:  It is the task of the nominating committee to recognize and recruit candidates for the executive committee of the Bennett PTSA.

Office Help: A weekly commitment helping in the school office checking absentees and calling to verify.


Room Parents: Help organize and place a room parent in each class and explain to them the various room volunteer positions. Most of this work is completed by the end of September.
 
Scholarship and Awards: Solicits applications, reviews them and then fairly assigns the awards.
 
SCRIP: These volunteers advertise and administrate this fundraiser by selling “SCRIP” (store gift cards) to PTSA members. Members pay face value for the gift cards which the PTSA purchases at a 5% discount.
 
Outreach: Parents on this committee help with humanitarian needs within the Bennett and Bellevue communities.


Social: Fun family events. Activities to be determined.
 
Staff Appreciation: Help coordinate monthly "Thank You's" for all the Bennett staff, organize a teacher luncheon to kick off the new school year and Staff Appreciation week in the spring.
 
Student Photos: Organize the individual/classroom photos taken in the fall. Work with the company, arrange for a date on the school calendar.

 

Technology: This committee identifies ways for the PTSA to support technology use and curriculum at the school and implements programs to meet those needs.

 

Website: This committee maintains the Bennett website with valuable school and PTSA resources online.

 

Walkathon: A major PTSA fund-raiser, this "don't miss" family event takes place in September, come rain or shine! We encourage all families to participate, get some exercise, meet some great people and enjoy a barbecue dinner.
 
Welcome event: Organize an hour of refreshment for parents the first morning of school. Come meet our principal, the PTSA Executive Board, sign-up for committees.
 
Yearbook: This committee works with the chosen publisher, collecting and arranging photos throughout the year to create a book of school memories.

 

Young Scientist Week: This committee works with staff and students to help enhance science education. The committee organizes Young Scientist Week which includes student science projects, in-class science activities, fieldtrips, and the popular Family Science Night.
