Emergency plan

Bennett Elementary School has developed a comprehensive Emergency/Disaster plan.

The plan will be in effect when an emergency such as a serious earthquake, heavy snowfall, or other event makes it unsafe to send students home via normal routes and schedules.  Children will be released only to their own parents/guardians or designated emergency caregivers.  In the event of severely hazardous weather conditions, school may be dismissed early.  Bus riders would be sent home on the school bus.  Those who are normally picked up by parents would remain at school until a parent/guardian or other emergency caregiver arrives. Any emergency early dismissal would be announced on the radio.  Emergency information is also available on the Bellevue School District website located at http://belnet.bellevue.k12.wa.us/emerg.html .

Please discuss with your children that Bennett will have an emergency plan and that everything possible will be done to keep every child and adult safe.  Also, they should know whom you have designated as emergency caregivers.  Persons living close to Bennett School and who are usually home or readily available during the day are logical caregivers.

A large locked container is located on the premises where our emergency supplies are stored.  The Bellevue School District has also supplied us with many tools and equipment necessary for rescue/survival operations.  Classroom first aid kits are located in each classroom along with class name lists and emergency instructions.

Instead of individual student packs, emergency food supplies are purchased each year and stored in quantities to serve the Bennett students over a 24 hour period.  If a severe situation exists, food from our school kitchen will also be used.

At the beginning of each year we require that emergency and medical information be provided on a written form for each student.  Please make sure to update this information should any changes occur during the school year.  If your child is on a daily medication, please provide a three-day supply to the school.
